Since the time of the Mughals, most Mathurs were ubiquitously employed in the royal Mughal courts nationwide, in administrative, clerical, accounting or other offices where the might of the pen was the call of the day. Mathurs, out of all Kayasthas are considered very high in their writing skills and abilities, as well as in keeping accounts. Even today, a lot of Mathurs tend to be involved with office jobs rather than a trade involvement, since their inherent sensitivities are more conducive to the literary and scholarly arts.
